About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) with expertise in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to join our growing  team. As a CLS specializing in NGS, you will play a crucial role in advancing our microbiome research and diagnostic capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, metagenomics, and hands-on experience with NGS technologies.

Your mission:

  • Sample Processing:
    • Execute and optimize protocols for DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, and other sample processing steps for NGS.
    • Ensure the quality and integrity of genomic material throughout the preparation process.
  • Instrument Operation:
    • Operate and maintain NGS platforms, such as Illumina or other relevant technologies.
    • Monitor instrument performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Quality Control:
    • Conduct rigorous quality control checks at each step of the NGS workflow to guarantee accurate and reliable results.
    • Develop and implement quality assurance protocols to uphold laboratory standards.
  • Data Analysis:
    • Collaborate with bioinformatics teams to analyze NGS data and generate meaningful insights.
    • Interpret results, troubleshoot discrepancies, and contribute to the refinement of analysis pipelines.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records, including protocols, data, and observations.
    • Generate comprehensive reports summarizing experimental procedures, results, and conclusions.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including bioinformaticians, clinicians, and researchers, to ensure seamless integration of NGS into broader research and diagnostic initiatives.
    • Participate in collaborative projects, contribute to team meetings, and share expertise with colleagues.
  • Continuous Learning:
    • Stay abreast of advancements in NGS technologies and relevant scientific literature.
    • Attend training sessions as needed to enhance technical skills and knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field, Current California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or valid "temporary" California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License and A minimum of 4 years experience working in a high complexity clinical diagnostics laboratory using next generation sequencing.

or

  • Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field, Current California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or valid "temporary" California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License and A minimum of 2 years experience working in a high complexity clinical diagnostics laboratory using next generation sequencing.

and

  • Proven experience in executing NGS protocols and troubleshooting technical challenges.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in a clinical diagnostics laboratory. Ideally, this will have been in a high complexity lab using next generation sequencing.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data analysis tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Right to work in the USA - visa sponsorship is not available.

Logistics

  • Time commitment: full-time, 40 hours per week during our regular office hours (Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm) but times may vary per team
  • Location: Oakland, California
  • Start date: May 2024
