About the role

Job Summary: 

Services to Students with Disabilities (SSD) is part of the Division of Student Affairs. The mission of the SSD office is to empower students with disabilities by fostering skills of self-advocacy, resourcefulness, and independence. The SSD office works collaboratively with the campus community to remove barriers and promote an enriched learning environment where students with disabilities can utilize their skills and pursue their academic and personal development goals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

SSD’s Federal Work Study Peer Mentor Student Assistants have direct contact with the campus’s disabled community. Working in a fast-paced environment, they are responsible for assisting with the development and incorporation of high-impact practices that promote academic support while increasing retention among SSD students as well as maintaining databases, performing general office work, and conducting other duties as assigned.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining professional etiquette while assisting with program outreach via phone, email, and/or social media.
  • Assists with maintaining files and records of all programs and events, completing reports, and providing documentation in a timely manner.
  • Assists with planning, developing, and implementing programs and events for SSD .
  • Assists with updating and maintaining departmental resource guides and manuals for staff, faculty and students.
  • Assists with referring students to on/off campus resources as well as scheduling appointments.
  • Assists with the planning, scheduling, and working key program workshops and events, including but not limited to: SSD events, Social Gatherings, Receptions, etc. Advance notification will be provided.
  • Attends on/off campus trainings or workshops. Advance notification will be provided.
  • Attends mandated staff meetings and training. Advance notification will be provided.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience 

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position. 
  • Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative. 
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate) 
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate) 
  • Eligible to work in the United States 
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card

  • Technologically proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Drive
  • Experience working in a customer service-driven environment
  • Ability to multi-task while managing multiple projects and adhering to deadlines
  • Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff

Compensation and Benefits: 

Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.50 per hour. 

The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors. 

Position Information: 

Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal

Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm). 

This is an 'On-Campus Only' position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.
