Job Description

The Director of Data Science partners with the Senior Leadership, Technology teams, Product Managers, Marketing Operations teams, Analytics, and other members to define and lead the vision, strategy, roadmap, development of our data science capabilities. They will be leading 15+ data scientists across audience building, delivery optimization, client models, and ML execution.

To be successful, you must have a passion for all things data, communicate effectively, understand complex business problems and apply innovative thinking to solve those problems.

The ideal candidate understands that data driven insight is at the core of product development at Vericast, not something one uses only in the post-hoc analysis of usage metrics and product performance measurement. You must be willing to get your hands dirty supporting internal and external requests.

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and lead data science staff – with focus on career and team development 25%
  • Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to develop product strategy and roadmaps 20%
  • Drive data science strategy for the organization, ensuring best practices 20%
  • Strategies for building and productizing models – providing guidance and collaborating on issues of methodology, scalable ML tooling, ML product development, performance monitoring and measurement 20%
  • Strategies around model operations (Model Ops) that leverage what we have built and help define what needs to be built 10%
  • Maintain a leadership presence in industry events and meetups 5%

Qualifications

 

  • Advanced Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, Econometrics, Statistics or Information Sciences such as business analytics or informatics
  • 3 - 5 years Experience managing data scientists (Required)
  • 10+ years Experience in analytics (Required)
  • Deep focus on team execution, follow-through, accountability and results
  • Passionate team builder who mentors, supports, and invests in their team to help them unlock their potential
  • Systems thinker with a quantitative approach to problem solving
  • Strong technical background in Machine Learning, Data Science and Data Platform areas
  • Strong program management and stakeholder management expertise
  • Cross-functional leader with a solid track record partnering with ML teams to define strategy and requirements
  • Prior experience leading enterprise-scale data science projects from development to production and implementing ModelOps around continuous model training and deployment
  • Interest in learning about business applications, business models and economics of machine learning and data technologies
  • Prior experience in applying Data Science in Digital Marketing Technology a plus

Knowledge/Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior technical and business stakeholders
  • Solid fundamental knowledge of traditional supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms and how to apply them to solve real world business problems at scale.
  • Strong desire to explore leveraging state-of-the art NLP, Ai and RL technologies to continually improve Vericast data driven products and processes
  • Familiarity with modern industry leading tools and frameworks related to scalable ML, AI and ML/Ops
  • Big data technologies such as Hadoop, BigQuery, S3, MapReduce, Apache Spark is required
  • Model explainability and interpretability techniques
  • Cloud platforms such as AWS a plus
  • Strong growth mentality and a servant leadership approach

Additional Information

Salary:$190,000-220,000 

The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
