JOB TITLE:                         Youth Program Aide

LOCATION/DEPT:             Kankakee Corps

REPORTS TO:                     Corps Officer

PEOPLE MANAGER:        No

FLSA CATEGORY:            Non-Exempt, Part Time

PAY GRADE:                       201

PAY RATE:                          $15.00 - $18.53 Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for aiding the supervision and direction of the educational, recreational, and developmental programs at The Salvation Army Youth Center and related programs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the overall operation of the Youth Center including, but not limited to:
  • Assist as directed with set-up, registration time, opening, closing activities.
    • Supervision of after school children in scheduled daily activities including completion of homework assignments, tutoring in math and reading, crafts, and computer stations.
    • Assist as needed with room preparations, scheduling of activities, meal preparation and clean-up as well as recreation activities.
    • Supervise arrival and departure of campers.
    • Assist in preparation of visits by visiting teachers or special guests.
    • Assist in statistics, daily, weekly, and monthly reporting as needed.
    • Provide support for occasional evening and weekend activities.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the individual students:
    • Learn to know the needs of everyone and be available to help each individual experience success.
    • Assist each student meet and exceed personal learning and achievement goals.
    • Follow Safe from Harm Guidelines closely to ensure safety and well-being of each individual student.
  • Assist in the overall components of the Youth Center. This may include:
    • Perform routine administrative work such as letters or routine correspondence.
    • Filing forms, letters and correspondence.
    • Preparing materials for lessons, workshops and meetings.
    • Assist with related program duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Compliance with mandated training requirements.

  • Successfully satisfy the training requirements associated to the position and as required by The Salvation Army.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred, significant experience will be considered in lieu of.

 

Experience:

  • Candidates must be passionate to work with school-aged children and be willing to demonstrate sound moral principles and leadership qualities.
  • One to two years of experience working with young people through direct service is preferred.

 

Skills/Abilities

  • Must be able to give direction and guida
