Job Description
Brightspeed has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Network Engineer to join our brand new, state of the art laboratory. As Principal Network Engineer, you will be responsible for technical leadership of the laboratory. The Principal Network Engineer role focuses on improving testing cycles, identifying inefficiencies, and effectively prioritizing test cases. The Principal Network Engineer will collaborate with a team of lab Engineers to provide a better service to our customers through thorough validation and optimization of all devices in services in the Brightspeed network. You will partner with vendor partners on improvements, bug fixes, and new products and features.
As Principal Network Engineer you will have the following responsibilities:
- Oversee the technical operation of the laboratory Wi-Fi and CPE environments.
- Create test plans for new hardware, firmware, and network designs.
- Performs regression testing on updated firmware releases for new and legacy products.
- Work closely with the Architecture and Operations staff to identify and verify real-world issues and develop resolutions.
- Will oversee and preform all Wi-Fi testing which includes device performance, Wi-Fi propagation, throughput, client and band steering performance and rate versus reach.
- Work with the team on the development of formalized testing methodologies.
- Provide periodic updates on test progress.
- Mentor other Engineers to assist with their career development.
- Work with the Lab manager to craft presentations for Senior Management on Lab developments.
- Work closely with vendors on solutions, bug fixes, and new products and firmware releases.
- Oversee proactive and reactive testing and assessments.
- Assist in developing and maintain standards and guidelines to preserve test integrity.
- Continually assess the existing Lab environment and identify opportunities for improving methods and efficiencies.
- Constantly look to innovate and improve both laboratory function, and operation methods and technologies.

Qualifications
WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.E.E or related major), or related experience
- 5+ years of Telecom/Cable/Internet Service Provider industry experience.
- Direct experience with Wi-Fi technologies and testing methods.
- Experience with Customer Premise Equipment.
- Must be able to collaborate with a diverse team of individuals.
- Experience in identifying potential design, performance, security, and support problems, including ability to identify technical risks/challenges and develop relevant mitigation strategies.
- Exceptional critical thinking, looking for ways to improve our day-to-day operations.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of team members, managers, and subject matter experts with strong presentation skills.
- Adaptive learner with excellent written & verbal communication and analytical/critical thinking skills
- Solid organizational skills, and ability to cope with deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Visio, PowerPoint, and Excel.

- Master’s degree.
- Experience with the Spirent Octobox testing system.
- Telecommunications Laboratory experience.
- Experience with one or more programing languages.
- Experience with Linux (RHEL, CENTOS) and VMs (ESXI).
- Experience with Jira/Confluence.
*This position is for the Kansas City Metro Area and will require the ability to report to the laboratory.
