Food Safety Supervisor

About the role
Key Duties & Responsibility:
- Lead the development and implementation of the SQF Certified System at the Winpak NJ site.
- Ensure the effectiveness of the system through verification, validation and ongoing maintenance.
- Take appropriate action to maintain the integrity of the SQF system.
- Maintain the integrity and development of the HACCP plan for Norwood and Northvale Warehouses.
- Ensure corrective actions from internal and external food safety audits are documented and properly completed.
- Prepare monthly reports relating to the food safety management system.
- Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Create and update all necessary documents for annual food safety procedures and SQF audits.
- Work with department managers to ensure that risks to the food safety management system are identified and managed to mitigate any risks.
- Review sub-contractor’s and suppliers’ certifications to ensure they are current.
- Coordinate the planning of the food safety committee meetings and activities.
- Perform QC finished goods batch checks for adherence to finished products specifications.
- Provide food safety training to new hires– introduction to Quality & Food Safety Policy, good manufacturing practices and HACCP.
- Verification of Food Safety Manual procedures, propose revisions where applicable.
- Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant with ISO 9001 and SQF standards.

Abilities
- Highly motivated
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint
- Accurate report writing and effective communication skills
- Strong analytical skills and demonstrated judgment and decisiveness
- Able to work within tight deadlines and under minimal supervision
- Good interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills are required
- Team attitude; eager to cooperate with others with exceptional interpersonal communication skills
Other combinations of education, experience, knowledge, and skills will be considered
Qualifications:
- Education
- Grade 12 with post-secondary preferred
- Certificate in a recognized HACCP training program
- Certificate in a recognized GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) training course
- Certification to a structured problem-solving program (i.e., CME Lean Level 1) - preferred
Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience in developing and maintaining a GFSI program - preferred
- Planning and performing internal food safety audits
- Experience in manufacturing and food safety management
- Certification in HACCP and SQF Practitioner
- Experience with developing and delivering training programs
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations and standards
- Familiar with process mapping and risk analysis techniques
