About the role
Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Key job responsibilities
Develop CNC manufacturing standards
Optimize machining processes for efficiency and productivity
Experience proving out first article NC programs
Provide feedback to programmers and management for process improvements
Advanced knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts
Experience with a variety of materials (aluminum, stainless steels, titanium and nickel based alloys)

A day in the life
The Machining Lead will work closely with programmers, machinists and machine shop management to outline, develop and optimize new machining and manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will have extensive experience programming and machining tight tolerance aerospace components. The desired candidate will have experience in a fast paced machining environment and will have the ability to respond quickly to interruptions and requests to support test teams.
About the team
The Kuiper machine shop provides development fabrication capabilities as well as future production machining. These operations occur in our Redmond facilities.
We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast paced, start-up like environment. To be successful you need to be highly motivated and detail oriented while showing the highest standards of execution.
5+ years of machine shop experience operating CNC equipment (multi-axis mills, lathes, routers…).
4+ years experience with GD&T
4+ Years as a people manager
Familiarity with AS9100 Quality Management System

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $135,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $234,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
