The Washington Post is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to support our content management systems in response to the evolving demands of a modern newsroom. In this role, you will contribute to innovation and maintain technical standards within our CMS team.

As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including editorial, product, and engineering, to develop and implement effective solutions that enhance efficiency, scalability, and user experience. The ideal candidate will have experience in software development projects, a good understanding of content management systems, and a keen interest in emerging technologies. Responsibilities

● Support organizational behavior within the codebase and at the project or team level.

● Review PRs promptly to assist in unblocking team members.

● Initiate the documentation process for undocumented codebases or systems.

● Share knowledge through documentation and pair programming.

● Develop modular, testable, and reusable code.

● Participate in technical decisions to meet deadlines or ship features effectively.

● Communicate complex scenarios to other engineers.

● Contribute to the development of features or projects under guidance.

● Assist in defining features and MVPs with product owners.

● Support the hiring process and evaluate candidates based on set criteria.

● Develop an understanding of peer work styles to suggest improvements in team norms.

● Support our users through periodic shifts in an on-call rotation.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business, or a related technical field is preferred.

● Minimum of 2 years of relevant technical experience, with a solid foundation in software development.

● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

● Ability to develop solutions using relevant technologies, ensuring maintainability and extensibility.

● Familiarity with testing and quality assurance practices including unit testing and code documentation.

● Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

● Ability to deliver quality solutions within established timelines.

● Proficiency in Java or Kotlin, React, and JavaScript.

● Additional desirable skills include AWS, Spring Boot, Node.js, and Svelte. .
