Job Description

As an Associate Producer for the NBC News Business & Economy Unit, you will work directly with producers, senior producers and correspondents to help pitch, write and produce business, economy, tech and entertainment news content for Nightly News, Weekend Nightly News, TODAY, Weekend TODAY, NBC NEWS NOW, NBC News.com and MSNBC.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond quickly to breaking news, helping in all production
  • Pre-interview and book characters for television and digital pieces
  • Research and develop stories
  • Make crew requests, edit requests and graphics requests
  • Assist in production, including going on shoots, logging tapes and pulling video elements
  • Write live segments and television scripts with producers and correspondents
  • Work on interactive graphics for monthly economic report coverage
  • Participate in special projects, pitch enterprise story ideas and assist senior producers
  • Write and co-write digital stories with producers, correspondents and digital reporters
  • Work as a team player across all NBC News platforms

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have at least two years’ editorial experience working in production preferably at the network level 
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a newsroom environment
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or communications or relevant work experience
  • Must be willing and able to travel
  • Must be able to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice, if needed
  • Must be willing to work overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, often with short notice

Additional Job Qualifications:

  • Must be willing to work in NYC
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong knowledge and interest in business, economy, tech and entertainment news
  • Strong journalistic writing and research skills, as well as editorial judgment
  • DV shooting experience
  • Knowledge of non-linear editing systems including Avid
  • Preferred but not required proficiency with Slack and iNews
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments
  • Knowledge of NBC News Policies and Guidelines and Practices

Additional Requirements:

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
