Genetic MedicineJob Summary:
We are looking for a motivated team player interested in working on multiple NIH-funded projects at the intersection of genetics, immunology, and computational biology. We seek to identify and functionally characterize rare and life-threatening diseases of childhood caused by novel genetic mutations. Our group publishes in high-impact journals including Science Immunology, PNAS, Nature Immunology, and others. The position is largely computational but involves substantial collaboration with wet-lab researchers providing data and is focused on fundamental biology. As a successful candidate, you will:
• Perform bioinformatics analysis on high-throughput genomic and
transcriptomic data.
• Develop and apply computational algorithms and statistical models for data
analysis, visualization, and interpretation.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team including physicians, basic
scientists, and trainees.
• Develop or implement data analysis pipelines and software tools.
• Present your findings in a clear and concise manner.
• Show strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Publish research outcomes in scientific journals and present at conferences.
Your qualifications should include:
• Bachelor of Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar
discipline.
• Strong expertise in analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R.
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience analyzing data from scRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, CHIP-seq, Cut&Run, or
CITE-seq experiments or other comparable high-throughput sequencing
approaches.
• Experience with performing alignment and variant calling for human whole
genome or exome sequencing.
We are dedicated to fostering a community that embraces diversity - in ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives; this is reflected in our work and represented in our people.
Department Summary:
The Division of Genetic Medicine is a robust and dynamic division, closely tied to the Vanderbilt Genetics Institute, that leads the nation in revealing the complex interactions between our genome and human health.
The division innovates across its research and clinical missions to integrate genome variation with genome function to better define biological mechanisms of human disease.
The Division of Genetic Medicine provides an academic environment enabling researchers to explore new relationships between disease susceptibility and human genetics. The division was established to host both research and clinical research programs focused on the genetic basis of health and disease.
