Purpose
The Building Services Manager provides overall management in the assigned building service area. Will directly supervise the Building Service Supervisors and Crew Leaders and oversee building attendant staff. In charge of inspection of assigned buildings to determine the need for repairs or other work and ensures these needs are reported and scheduled by coordinating with other departments within University Housing and Dining (UHD) and the University. Processes request for budget estimates, input requisitions, and reviews project reports for costs and accuracy. Arrange employee training, train supervisors, and keep abreast of the latest procedures and cleaning innovations.
Responsibilities
Inspects jobs, sets standards, maintains quality control, meets with supervisors regularly, and ensures supervisors meet with employees as scheduled. Leads and directs staff, volunteers for committees, attends conferences and workshops, and presents to staff, at conferences, and/or other groups.
Inspects buildings to determine the need for repairs or other work and ensures these needs are reported and scheduled. Monitors security doors for problems and corrects problems promptly. Coordinates with other departments within UHD and the University. Follows up with problem areas.
Requests budget estimates, inputs requisitions, prepare specifications and scope of work as needed, and reviews project reports for costs and accuracy. Recommends purchase of equipment, ensures supplies are available and repairs are made on the equipment.
Ensures all Building Service Floor evaluations, Fire Safety Inspections, and Building Service Make Ready inspections are completed as scheduled and prepared as required to be finalized for our assessment report.
Arrange employee training, train supervisors, and keep abreast of the latest procedures and cleaning innovations. Promotes safety and ensures Right to Know training is current. Guides new staff and other staff as needed.
Uses tact and good judgment when dealing with students, staff, and employees.
Ensures that timecards are accurate and timely, evaluates supervisors, approves employee evaluations, and initiates disciplinary action when needed. Interview and hire employees. Ensures that University and UHD policies and procedures are followed and implemented. Ensure staff are informed of UHD policies.
Participates and encourages training, working with peers, visitors, and students, accepting change, and cross-training staff. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory/manager capacity
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
5 or more years of supervisory experience of custodial staff.
University and or higher education experience.
Experience using automated work order systems.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Experience planning and coordinating fire safety inspections, conference sets, and room preparation.
Bi-lingual in English and Spanish.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
