This position in the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorlogy Lab at NSF | NCAR provides community service through serving as editor or reviewer for scientific journals. They conduct research of interest related to convectively induced turbulence, dynamics of mesoscale convective systems, and the impact of surface and atmospheric environments on warm-season precipitation.Position Details:

What You Will Do
As a Casual Researcher, the work to be performed will be aligned with the desire to continue research at NCAR/MMM following retirement. Duties will be based on opportunities and may include:
Serving as a reviewer for publications for scientific journals.
Continuing collaborations and providing expert advice to colleagues in MMM and RAL related to aviation turbulence and short-term hazard predictability research.
Continuing collaborations that further understanding of the effects of mesoscale convective systems on the generation of turbulence and the hydrologic cycle.
Authoring or co-authoring manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
Attending and contributing to workshops/meeting of interest
Who We'd Love To Join Our Team
Successful candidates will ensure their application materials speak to the following criteria:
Education and Experience (Required/Desired):
Ph.D. in a relevant science, and at least ten years of experience in the scientific field of specialization; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expert knowledge of mesoscale convective systems (MCSs).
Expert knowledge and skill in the use of numerical models and diagnostic tools.
Advanced analytical skills.
Expert technical knowledge of atmospheric dynamics and deep convection.
Advanced skill in the data analysis of convective system life cycles.
Advanced skill in effectively communicating research results through peer-reviewed publication with national and international recognition.
