We are hiring 25 Collections Tax Specialist 1s (Revenue Tax Specialist 1s) for our Collections Division located in Springfield, IL. with a tentative start date of 9/16/2025. In this position you will assist taxpayers and their representatives with preparation of tax returns, determine the most appropriate collection action to secure delinquent tax returns, and communicate with taxpayers to collect or resolve tax debt owed to the State of Illinois. Essential Functions

• Under general supervision, confers by telephone, correspondence and/or in person with taxpayers and/or their representatives to make demand for payment or filing of missing returns and/or debt.
• Receives, reviews and analyzes routine in-state and out-of-state accounts assigned by the tax system, referred from other enforcement programs or other state agencies, involving the various taxes administered by the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR), to determine the most appropriate collection action to secure delinquent tax returns, taxpayer compliance and taxpayer debt in a cost-efficient manner, e.g., bank levy, wage levy, license revocations, etc.
• Utilizes GenTax, or other PC systems, to access delinquent taxpayer cases while conferring by telephone, correspondence, and/or in person.
• Prepares and prints remittance processing documents, when appropriate, and directs the liability to the proper account period.
