Story Development at Walt Disney Imagineering is the process of creating a story experience on the attraction, land, resort level, establishing themes, generating high concepts and creating written outlines, treatments, scripts in collaboration with project teams, with the ultimate objective to solve business problems and entertain and inspire the Disney Guest!

What You Will Do

  • The Senior Story Editor holistic has responsibility over story development for entire land and/or multiple attractions, focusing on consistent quality of tone, voice, themes, character and story structure from blue sky to execution.

  • Maintains creative approach informed by consumer research, insights related to brand, franchise and marketing, and site needs assessments.

  • Collaborate with artists in the creation of presentation materials such as decks, boards, story boards, and video presentations.

  • Presents concepts at all levels of The Walt Disney Company and external stakeholders.

  • Supports company-wide internal and external communications.

  • Work efficiently under tight deadlines, while maintaining individual creative integrity and communicating effectively.

  • The Story Editor Senior is an integral and dedicated partner on multiple projects of various levels of complexity, from concept to completion, with some supervision and peer review from Managing Story Editor.

  • Mentor team members. Provide knowledge and historical expertise regarding past projects.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years in entertainment industry as a writer or writer's assistant (film, theater, television production, or other equivalent experience).

  • Disney Theme Park experience and/or understanding of the themed entertainment industry.

  • Able to delegate, polish dialogue and mentor staff writers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Understanding of story structure with ability to write strong dialogue, clear and concise copy, and descriptive prose.

  • Complete competency in Microsoft Word, Final Draft, and Keynote.

  • Ability to research visual and written archival resources.

  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and collaborate with team members.

  • Strategic problem solver.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Language fluency in written and colloquial Mandarin Chinese and/or Japanese, French, Cantonese, Spanish are a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in: Creative Writing, Playwriting, Screen Writing, Journalism, or Communications studies desired.

  • Graduate level education in Creative Writing, Playwriting, Screen Writing, Journalism, or Communications preferred.
