The Principal Research Scientist will perform comprehensive physics and-or astrophysics laboratory research. The incumbent will operate gamma-ray detector space instrumentation. Analyze gamma-ray science data.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Perform comprehensive physics and-or astrophysics laboratory research.
• Operate gamma-ray space instrumentation, including Fermi GBM instrument simulator.
• Perform research, analysis, evaluation and-or simulation of gamma-ray space instrument data.
• Perform assessments, identify and classify transients detected by Fermi GBM.
• Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics or Astrophysics with 30-36 months of full-time work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Operation of typical radiation physics laboratory equipment.
• Knowledge of established software design and configuration management practices and policies.
• Experience with physics or astrophysics laboratory research.
• Five+ years of experience with gamma-ray space hardware is preferred.
• Knowledge of IDL, LabVIEW, and Python programming is desired.
• At least five years of experience analyzing gamma-ray burst data or astrophysics laboratory research, and publishing results in the scientific literature is preferred.
• Experience with the development, integration, and testing of an astrophysical gamma-ray telescope is desired.
