The Wellness Trainer assists in instructing and coaching wellness clients. The Wellness Trainer is responsible and accountable for all of the functions including those of the Therapy Aides. The Wellness Trainer is considered a team player and assists the client in achieving their personal fitness goals.

Job Description

Essential Functions

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

• Instruct or coach individuals or groups in exercises or activities.

• Develops individualized exercise programs.

• Teach and demonstrate proper use of gym equipment and provide appropriate feedback to clients to prevent injury.

• Assist with transfers to exercise equipment.

• Orients clients to the facility and gym area.

• Maintains client exercise logs and census logs.

• Demonstrate competence in assessing blood pressure and heart rate.

• Assist client in proper breathing techniques.

• Lead various groups such as osteoporosis, MS circuit training, or other general groups.

• Maintain general cleanliness of equipment and gym.

• Reports observations or changes in the client’s condition or behavior to professional staff.

• Assist clients who require supervision with transfers, toileting, ambulation and other functional activities.

• Coordinates alternative programming (ie adaptive yoga classes).

• Orders all supplies for the Wellness gym.

• Completes competencies for NES cycles under the direction of the NES Program Coordinator.

• Assists physical therapists with use of the Ekso device following training.

• Demonstrates divided attention to ensure safety of all clients when census is high.

Education:

High School education.  Degree in Exercise Science or Exercise Physiologist preferred.

AND

Experience:

Six months to one year as a Therapy Aide preferred. 

Exposure to people with disabilities preferred.

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:

CPR certification.
