Position Overview

The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire an energetic activity therapist who implements principles and practices of creative arts and recreational therapies for students at Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education – Roosevelt (ICRE-R) with physical disabilities including but not limited to sports and fitness, arts and crafts, hobbies, music therapy, leisure education, community integration trips, parties, special events, skill development, etc. The activity therapist attends interdisciplinary team meetings and serves as a professional resource person for all ICRE-R units regarding issues and specialty areas.  This position will prepare and maintain activity therapy areas, equipment, and supplies for daily programs and special events.

Essential Functions

  • Implements principles and practices of creative arts and recreational therapies for students at Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education – Roosevelt (ICRE-R) with physical disabilities including but not limited to sports and fitness, arts and crafts, hobbies, music therapy, leisure education, community integration trips, parties, special events, skill development, etc.

  • Attends interdisciplinary team meetings and serves as professional resource person for all ICRE-R units regarding issues and specialty areas.  

  • Conducts activity assessments on assigned cases.

  • Prepares and maintains activity therapy areas, equipment and supplies for daily programs and special events.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree with a major in therapeutic recreation, music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, drama therapy, leisure studies or recreation with a specialization in recreational therapy, including successfully completion of an approved internship, fieldwork, or pract
