Position Details:

The Opportunity:

The Assistant Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management and administration of all fiscal duties for multiple operating units within WSU-Pullman Student Affairs (e.g., Housing & Dining Services (HOS), Marketing & Communications, Administrative Systems Information Services (ASIS), etc.) Duties include but are not limited to directing and controlling program operations and accountability for the allocation of resources and program results for assigned operating units, using independent judgment and discretion. Directing the development of monthly reports on all fiscal operations for Housing and Dining, and providing financial projections for operations, major repairs and renovations and its impact on future operations. Manage all department business support staff, planning, developing department policies and business operations with delegated authority to make departmental commitments and ensure compliance with department, University and state policies and procedures. Provide monthly financial reporting, analysis and reconciliation for assigned operating units and direct the staff who provides purchasing services, travel services, expense reporting, and p-card verification for these Cost Centers.

This position is primarily based on our Pullman, WA campus with a possibility of some hybrid/remote flexibility. 

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime exempt.


Monthly Salary:

$6,944 to $7,674 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year­ for-year basis. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment. Positions may require applicable licensure and/or certification.

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in fiscal management or budget development.

  • Experience with various financial activities such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, travel, personnel, cost analysis and budget planning.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of Windows based computer system and Microsoft applications.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.

  • Experience and/or knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations pertaining to fiscal management.
