This position can be filled as either an Engineering Technologist III or a Senior Engineering Technologist depending on experience.
Note: Lancaster, SC or Fort Mill, SC are the preferred locations for this position.
Job Summary
This position is for a Reliability-specific Engineering Technologist. This role will support Fort Mill, Lancaster, York and Chester Operation Centers along with another Reliability teammate.
The Engineering Technologist III position is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role. An Engineering Technologist III provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist III position are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.
Senior Engineering Technologist is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy. Minimal Supervision and ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work is the hallmark of this level.
Responsibilities
• Provides deep technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of reliable electric service, outage follow-ups and reduction of future outages
• Provides leadership during storm response, in Damage Assessment Coordinator role, both locally and on travel teams assisting other Areas, Zones, or out-of-state off-system
• Inspect lines and walk out inaccessible right-of-way to gather information on Vegetation or Maintenance needs, then Design Work Orders in Maximo to address what is identified
• Research outage history, support regulatory/governmental, large account management, customer service center, and direct customer callbacks on outage related complaints and concerns
• Investigate unexpected operations of Devices and Self-Healing Teams working with Protections and Controls group, I&C Techs and others
• Conducts engineering and related studies, such as Voltage drop and Flicker calculations
• Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
• Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches & maintains accurate records and files
• Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance
• Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities between Operations, Engineering, Vegetation Management, Resource Scheduling and more.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
• Coaches and mentors other Engineering Technologists, especially in carrying out Reliability & Maintenance projects from Design to field completion
• Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
• The core focus of this position will be around reactive outage investigation and response, plus efforts towards improvement of long-term reliability across the area.
Required Qualifications
Engineering Technologist III
Must have either 3+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 5+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 9+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
Senior Engineering Technologist
Must have either 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 8+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 12+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
Desired Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering
• Certifications in Power Quality, System studies, Time-Current curves and analysis, etc.
• Experience with electrical system analysis Products (Ex: CymDist, CymTCC, etc.)
