Job Overview

As a Senior Manager, Energy, you will have leadership responsibility for managing Macy’s Inc. enterprise-wide energy initiatives across stores, distribution centers, and corporate facilities. Primary responsibilities include leading the development and execution of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, including lighting upgrades, HVAC efficiency initiatives, and on-site and off-site renewable energy programs. You will also lead the Energy Finance team, managing Macy's energy budget and utility cost forecasting process while communicating key insights on energy usage and pricing to senior leadership.

This role requires a strong background in project management, HVAC and electrical systems, renewable energy, and financial acumen. You must be highly organized, possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate technical and financial information in a clear and actionable manner to a variety of audiences.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the development, implementation, and management of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects including lighting retrofits, HVAC energy initiatives, demand response, and utilities.
  • Oversee project timelines, budgets, and execution strategy, coordinating with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and contractors.
  • Manage and guide the Energy Finance team responsible for utility budget development and utility cost forecasting
  • Monitor and communicate changes in utility pricing, market trends, and energy usage patterns to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal business partners, utilities, and third-party vendors to identify emerging opportunities and solutions.
  • Develop and maintain yearly capital and expense budgets to support energy initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to direct team members and other energy colleagues.
  • Lead communication efforts related to Macy’s energy program strategy, performance, and financial impacts to executive and senior leadership teams.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities. 
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Skills You Will Need

Project Management: Experience managing complex projects from initiation to completion, including coordination of stakeholders, budgets, and timelines. Candidate should have strong project management skills and be willing to learn and develop expertise in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and utility infrastructure.

Financial Management: Ability to understand utility cost forecasting, budget development, financial modeling, and provide information on financial impacts to leadership.

Strategic Thinking: Ability to drive strategic initiatives that reduce energy costs, enhance sustainability, and align with corporate goals.

Coordination: Expertise in collaborating with internal teams and external partners to implement projects on time and within budget.

Technical Knowledge: Understanding of HVAC, lighting, electrical systems, and renewable energy technologies. Familiarity with energy markets and utility rate structures.

Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey technical and financial information to a wide range of audiences.

Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze complex data, identify opportunities, and implement solutions that drive measurable results.

Workflow Management: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.

Collaboration: Proven ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across departments and with external partners to advance Macy’s energy program objectives.
