Sr. Product Manager, Payment Enablement
BlockAbout the role
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
The Square Platform is an open, global financial services platform for sellers and developers who serve our sellers. It provides the necessary components to manage identity, process payments across multiple channels, hold and transfer funds, and provide accounting, reconciliation, and reporting in a secure and compliant way.
We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to join our Identity Platform team. We're responsible for ensuring that we know who we're doing business with when onboarding (and if needed, offboarding) sellers to payment products and methods. Sellers and developers rely on this platform to keep track of the sensitive details of their business, to manage who can make changes, and to make it painless to stay within the bounds of the law regardless of how their business evolves.
The Payment Enablement product has the mission to allow all types of sellers to enable financially regulated products by providing solutions for Square to centrally manage financial capability enablement while ensuring that all regulatory, risk, and partnership requirements are met. We protect the business, but bias towards enablement and inclusivity over exclusion and gatekeeping.
As the product manager for Payment Enablement, you will lead the direction of your product by setting vision/strategy and partnering with the engineering managers of your sprint teams to drive execution. In this role you will champion the voice of our sellers to deliver a reliable, scalable, and secure platform that allows Square to innovate on behalf of our sellers.
You Will
- Run your product like a business: manage the entire product life cycle from ideation, to planning and execution
- Focus the team on the most impactful projects by understanding the jobs to be done, synthesizing those needs into your product roadmap, and defining key metrics
- Manage expectations by communicating progress to stakeholders and partners
- Align for large cross-team projects by driving your team's annual planning process.
- Ensure the health of your product by balancing new features with maintenance and technical debt.
You Have
- 5+ years of product management experience or equivalent
- Deep understanding and empathy for our sellers and focus to help them grow
- Passion for our purpose of economic employment and innovation on behalf of our sellers
- System thinking mindset, technical background and passion
- An analytical and metrics driven work style that leverages data to make informed decisions
- Desire to lead, the ability to drive product strategy and work well with senior engineers, designers, data scientists and our Industry Relations team
- Great interpersonal and communication skills that shine when you’re talking with a customer or engaging a cross-functional audience
- Natural curiosity, obsession with the details, desire to build the right thing
- Prior payment experience preferred
