About the role

Overview:

Deepens and broadens relationships with high-net worth and ultra-high net worth clients and prospects by working with other wealth management team members and partners such as Private Client and Investment Advisors and other planning specialists to identify, evaluate, implement, and administer wealth management strategies, tactics and solutions.  Serves as subject matter expert for fiduciary issues.  May serve as primary point of contact for the client or prospect at times during the relationship.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced knowledge of estate, trust, tax, philanthropic, family governance, multigenerational planning and other wealth management disciplines to deepen and broaden client and prospect relationships through delivery of advice and guidance as part of the planning process and using experience with investment disciplines used by the firm and general knowledge of credit and insurance disciplines.
  • Work closely with a team of wealth and banking partners to fully understand a client or prospect's unique situation and recommend qualitative and quantitative strategies to address these issues.
  • Consult with clients and prospects and their other advisors in the development, implementation and ongoing administration of their wealth management plan in areas such as, but not limited to, estate and trust, philanthropic, Delaware Trust, business succession, family governance and multigenerational planning.
  • Work closely with leadership in the Wealth Strategy Group, as well as regional wealth and banking leadership, to promote our combined wealth and banking capabilities internally and externally and which may include local, regional or national initiatives as well as projects to advance and drive business results and service and retention goals.
  • Maintain and expand established network local and regional centers of influence that may include attorneys, accountants and others to drive new wealth and banking opportunities. 
  • Develop and lead client, prospect and/or internal bank workshops and seminars in a range of wealth management and fiduciary topics such as estate and trust planning, philanthropy, taxation, asset protection, Delaware Trust, family governance, multi-generational planning and other relevant topics.
  • Author articles on relevant and timely topics of interest for our clients, including but not limited to, estate and trust planning, income and transfer tax, philanthropy, business succession, Delaware Trust, changes to tax law, insurance planning, executive planning strategies, family governance and multigenerational planning, asset protection and family wealth issues related to divorce.
  • Analyze and assess highly complicated and undefined client and prospect situations to drive appropriate solutions to meet their goals and objectives.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Clients supported by the position typically have liquid net worth of $10 mm and above.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ relevant industry experience  and knowledge working with high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, including closely-held business owners, in estate and trust planning, wealth management/financial services, Federal transfer and/or income tax, business succession planning or in a fiduciary practice, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 11 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 7 years’ relevant industry experience  and knowledge working with high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, including closely-held business owners, in estate and trust planning, wealth management/financial services, Federal transfer and/or income tax, business succession planning or in a fiduciary practice
