Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.
Job Summary
An intermediate-level engineer is responsible for independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. This role requires using judgment to recommend necessary adaptations and modifications. Typical responsibilities include engineering or scientific design, problem-solving, and providing technical support for the optimal operation and maintenance of company assets. The engineer collaborates with teams consisting of field employees, technicians, engineers, and other personnel.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in obtaining local and state environmental construction permits, particularly those related to soil erosion and sedimentation control (SESC), inland lakes and streams, floodplains, and joint permit applications (JPA). Additionally, the candidate should be knowledgeable about wetland regulations and the processes involved in wetland mitigation.
Key Accountabilities
- Performs engineering assignments, proposing solutions to engineering related problems.
- Works with experienced professionals to recommend and implement timely solutions involving routine engineering, design, operation, maintenance of company assets and market optimization.
- Collaborates with more experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems within time and budget constraints.
- Develops models and analyzes data in order to recommend solutions and/or improvements in processes and programs; develops and presents presentations to all levels of management and/or external parties.
- May provide field engineering assistance or technical support.
- Keeps up to date on current technology and market/technology trends.
- Ensures environmental regulatory compliance by monitoring, reporting, developing and implementing procedures and strategies
- Perform, coordinates and recommends solutions for environmental issues based on investigations, professional judgement, current industry practices and occasional consultation with experienced professionals
- Reviews and interprets environmental regulations and proposed regulatory changes to assess impact and to ensure compliance
- Represents the company on environmental issues with regulatory agencies and industry groups
- Understanding of environmental laws and regulations
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science job relevant discipline and a minimum of 2 years of job relevant experience
Other Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel and Word
- Intermediate analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong time management, prioritization, and organization skills
- Proficient communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree or higher in Engineering or job-relevant discipline (MBA, JD, PhD
- Experience with SESC permitting
- Experience preparing and filing joint permit applications (JPAs) in Michigan
- Wetlands delineation and wetlands mitigation experience
- Experience with other construction-related permitting analysis (inland lakes and streams, county drains, flood plain, etc.)
