Essential Job Duties: 

The Workflow Lead is accountable for monitoring on a daily basis all assigned work in the department and ensuring that all deliverables are completed on time. Additionally, the Workflow Lead is responsible for researching and resolving problem samples, liaising with internal and external customers as needed, and working with global counterparts to ensure processes and SOP’s are well defined and any problems are resolved in a timely manner. The Workflow Lead will provide support to the Management team on a daily basis.

  • Directs and or re-directs team members to accommodate volume changes and client deadlines
  • Ensures all sample handling, sample storage/monitoring, and customer service activities in the department are completed on time
  • Identifies and resolves issues
  • Is responsible for ensuring the team is fully trained on all tasks they will be performing
  • Develops solutions to manage a registration backlog.
  • Helps manage and or alerts management of non-routine issues from the team inboxes and provides direction on problem issues as needed.
  • Provides guidance and best practices for Biorepository services
  • Provides input on SOP's, policies, new services, quality issues, and training as needed
  • Is able to step into any and all operational functions in the department, including but not limited to freezer and Rees management, data importing and committing, registration, de-identification, shipping, discarding, scheduling, and issue resolution.
  • Covers for management and peers as needed
  • Provides tours to internal and external visitors as needed
  • Acts as a mentor answering questions and providing training as needed
  • Pro-Actively monitors new and/or existing projects and communicates with management when problems arise.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by doing other duties assigned, such as assisting in writing SOPs or acting as a subject matter expert for the department.
  • Acts as on the job trainer for all aspects of the Sample Handling Assistant positions for both new staff and continuing education of existing staff.
  • Process Excellence: Instills a culture of continuous improvement, quality and productivity and leads various strategic projects and initiatives

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Minimum 2 year applicable work experience
  • Able to work in a team as well as independently
  • Dynamic attitude and ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to take up challenges
  • Strong detail orientation
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Ability to use several software packages i.e. Word, Excel, Access

Working Conditions:

  • Repetitive motion via samples and computer terminal
  • High volume and high production environment
  • Constant exposure to dangerous goods and infectious substance
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures
  • Repetitive lifting of 20 kilos/50 pounds or more

Special Factors:

  • Work is performed in a laboratory environment
  • Required to work on more than one project at a time requiring prioritization and completion of work to meet timelines
  • Saturday work may be required
  • Overtime may be required
