POSITION SPECIFICS
We are searching for a customer service oriented, detailed Engineering Support Specialist to join our Research Facilities and Instrumentation Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. The position will operate in a unique research facility, assist with various activities throughout the department, and provide technical support to R&D engineers and other research faculty.

You will:
Be responsible for the setup, instrumentation, data acquisition, wiring, mechanical assembly, maintenance, and upgrades related to the testing facility
Troubleshoot equipment problems and resolve or report issues
Use basic electronic test equipment
Inspect, test, and calibrate sensors, parts, and equipment as directed
Assist other support specialists with their work as needed
Assist in operating large-scale research infrastructure maintaining careful attention during day-to-day activities and responding promptly to unexpected situations with guidance from the team
Work as part of a project support team within the laboratory or in the field
Additional responsibilities for higher-level position include:
Evaluate, recommend, integrate, and assist in implementing new technologies for test hardware, test setups, and facility hardware
May take on task leadership roles within the laboratory or in the field
Develop and document operating procedures
Required skills/experience areas include:
Interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
Building cable assemblies, using solder and crimp-style connectors
Proficient soldering skills
Previous success safely using basic hand and power tools, such as drills, soldering iron, heat guns, etc.
May work in confined spaces
Preferred skills/experience areas include:
Prior experience using sensors such as pressure, temperature, level, current, voltage, power, etc.
