Position Summary

The Operations & Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus.

We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 10.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the world’s highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management.

Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors.

The Team Lead Senior Project Manager is responsible for projects and planning for their assigned specialty area, which includes programming and leading design initiatives. Day-to-day activities include the management of architects and engineers, leading teams, supporting primary customers, and serving as a liaison for university leadership in all assigned activities. The Team Lead Senior Project Manager is a member and leader of a team responsible for overseeing construction services for buildings and infrastructure that supports the education, research, and clinical service delivery missions of the University.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Provides development, guidance, and performance management to professional and support staff members, recognizing those for superior efforts and ensuring a well-engaged workforce.
• Oversees planning, design, and construction projects.
• Manages communication, planning, and project implementation.
• Works closely and continuously with OFMD leadership, WUSM department chairs/business managers, and OFMD team members to ensure seamless campus project integration and construction.
• Actively supports the Chancellor’s Supplier Diversity and Sustainability Initiatives for maximum participation.
• Implements departmental policies and guidelines associated with the Physical Planning and Project Delivery Process for their areas of responsibility.
• Partners with OFMD team members in planning initiatives, including facility renewal items, renovations, and new construction.
• Serves as customer liaison for all assigned areas and works to resolve customer service issues, as applicable, including communicating with faculty, staff, and WUSM leadership.
• Provides monthly financial forecast update information to the Director for all active construction projects.
• Assists in developing, maintaining, and enforcing WUSM Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, and Construction Standards.
• Will support a five-year capital planning process, including representation for their assigned area, five-year plan development, needs identification, and cost estimating.
• Utilizes historical project cost information and helps develop and maintain a WUSM D&C construction cost database for future project estimating.
• Promptly close out projects, including collecting as-builts, warranty tracking, O&M manuals, and final project cost information.
• Provides consulting and problem-solving support to Facilities Operations on all completed projects under their responsibility.
• Provides direction to Architects and Engineers to ensure that WUSM programs and goals are identified in Construction documents.
• Aligns contractors with their expertise and matches each to their project type.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in planning, architecture, or mechanical engineering.
• Over ten years of University or Medical School experience in a facilities organization is desired.
• Clinical planning experience. LEED: It is recommended that the Senior Project Manager be a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP).
• Progressively responsible management experience, including supervision of staff.
