Job Description:

The Public Services team is looking for three (3) new Clean-up Equipment Operator III’s to join our team! Under the direction of the field supervisor, this position operates a variety of light to heavy vehicles and equipment used in the cleanup of City neighborhoods, streets, islands, alleys and sweeping/washing City streets. This position requires operating equipment in other areas, as well as assisting on an as-needed basis in garbage collection operations.

About the Position

Salt Lake City’s Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) connects unsheltered individuals to essential resources and assists small-scale cleaning request received from residents.

All positions work Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and are not eligible for a remote/hybrid work schedule. This position may require you to work non-traditional hours, like holidays and/or weekends, and are expected to be on-call for specified times during the snow removal season.

About the Team

The Public Services Facilities Division is an internal service that provides maintenance and repairs to City buildings such as City Hall, the Sorenson Unity Center, Smith’s Ballpark, and fire stations. This division is also responsible for the security and maintenance of the downtown and Sugar House business districts. Applicants for roles within the Facilities Division can expect to directly provide or support the skilled trades and maintenance to the City’s facilities to keep this important infrastructure running smoothly for its occupants.

Position Hourly Rate Range:

$22.94 - $30.21

Key Responsibilities:

• Operates a full range of light to heavy construction equipment and tools required for various cleanup applications. (low complexity: 3/4-ton pickup trucks, chain saws, hedgers, chemical sprayers, power sprayers, weed eaters, blowers, shovels, rakes, tractor mowers.) (Medium complexity: transport, leaf trucks, bobcat, Unimog, sander plows.) Rotates from one piece of equipment to the other based on operational needs. Tests tools and test drives all potential equipment purchases and makes recommendations to field supervisor.

• As cleanup operator participates in cleanup programs, or acting as laborer/flagger, picking up and hauling away various refuse. Is responsible for transporting signs and barricade equipment to and from job sites.

• Daily refuse.

• Performs snow removal duties in assigned district in accordance with the City's snow removal programs.

• Evaluates and documents the operating condition of and performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment prior to its use. "Trouble shoots" and makes minor repairs in the yard or on the job site and refers major repairs to fleet management. Completes routine forms, i.e., equipment logbooks, equipment check sheets, weigh tickets, repair tickets, storm records, load reports, and land fill trip response documents.

• Participates in the cleanup of special projects such as parades, and other events.

• Lead work crews independently coordinating with supervisor and intermittent supervisory roles.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Three years’ paid work experience to include two years’ operating heavy equipment or commercial vehicles.

• One year experience operating landscaping machinery, snow removal equipment, bobcat operation and heavy-duty pickup truck operation with trailer towing experience.
