About the role

Overview

The Student Pathways Division of the Agency of Education (AOE) is seeking an enthusiastic and mission-driven Afterschool & Summer Program Coordinator to assist in the provision of statewide leadership, oversight, and support of the newly created State of Vermont Afterschool and Summer Learning Program (per Act 78 of 2023; 16 V.S.A. § 4018). This position will report to the Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO) Program Manager and in coordination and collaboration with staff overseeing other federal and state afterschool and summer and flexible pathway grant programs currently administered by the AOE. Work is performed under the general direction of the Division Director of the Student Pathways Division. The Afterschool & Summer Program Coordinator will provide administrative and specialized program leadership for the afterschool and summer learning program. This will include the planning, development, coordination, and implementation of the program(s), and will involve the creation, expansion and/or maintenance of processes and systems to support grant development and administration, contracting processes, and technical assistance and professional learning for afterschool and summer programs within the specifications outlined by the State of Vermont. This position will require maintaining cooperative inter- and intra-divisional relationships, collaboration to ensure coherence with existing state and federal "third space" programs, effective project management, and significant knowledge of developing school and community-based programs. 


The Coordinator will play a critical role in assisting the state's response to addressing equity of access to quality enriched and expanded learning opportunities (ELOs) for children and youth, supporting schools and programs throughout the state in developing evidence-based afterschool and summer learning opportunities. This position will be instrumental in the AOE meeting its goal to build out the "third space" in Vermont so that every child and youth can access connected learning opportunities that enrich their lives and lead to new opportunities.

 

This position provides significant opportunities to learn state and Federal policies and to develop state-level leadership skills with mentoring support.

  • is a skilled systems thinker with relevant experience working with and within systems; 
  • is able to work with technologies and digital tools that support program management and remote work; 
  • is an effective communicator via different media and with different stakeholders;
  • is able to read, understand, and adhere to State of Vermont policies and procedures related to contracting and grand making, and;
  • is competent in core areas related to grant and program management.

 

This position is classified as an Education Programs Coordinator II by the Department of Human Resources.

Environmental Factors

Work is generally performed in a standard office setting, but significant travel may be anticipated for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be required. There may be considerable interaction with a variety of publics and strong differences of opinion may be encountered.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education, public administration, or related field AND five (5) years or more at a professional level education, program development, or leadership role in a public or private educational institution.
OR
Three (3) years or more as an Education Programs Coordinator I with the State of Vermont.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.
