Internship Program Qualifications:
- Current student:
- You must be currently enrolled in a university undergraduate or graduate degree program in the U.S with a graduation date of December 2025 or later
- Able to intern from June 2025 through early September 2025 (12 weeks)
- Authorization:
- You must be legally authorized to work in the US during the Summer 2025 program
- Visa sponsorship is not available for our internship positions, but we welcome applicants on a student visa (with authorization to work in the U.S.) to apply
- Location:
- Located within the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate during the internship. Relocation assistance will be provided for students who will need to relocate for the summer.
- Able to work 40 hours per week (full-time) in a hybrid work model with a minimum of 4 days in office for in person collaboration with our team
About the role:
Our Security Engineering internship is designed to provide exposure to a variety of security tasks that one should expect as a junior or entry-level security analyst. This Security Engineer internship will provide you the opportunity to solve Sigma’s critical security and data protection related challenges. You will be part of a growing team in cyber resilience, incident response, and technical implementation activities. As a generalist, you will have the opportunity to work in many facets of Cybersecurity.
During your internship your responsibilities will include:
- Participation in Cyber operations, conducting research, design and documentation associated with proper controls and remediation to protect information and systems
- Determine the technical and business impact and the likelihood of identified security issues and provide remediation guidance to stakeholders
- Build automations for Cyber Incident Response and remediation to establish an effective Security Program
- Collaborate with the Security teams by scoping and delivering a capstone project in a specific research area
- Monitoring and triaging alerts/vulnerabilities from our other Cloud security monitoring systems. Responsible for the Cyber threat detection and vulnerability management automation efforts for Cloud
- Assist in implementing an effective structure program for Cyber operations and reduce noise from SIEM alerts by creating high fidelity rules
- Analyzing logs and hunting for suspicious activities
What we’re looking for:
- Applicants must be pursuing at least a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree (Masters preferred) in Cyber Security, Cyber Assurance, Computer Science or a related field.
- Preference for candidates with excellent knowledge of Python.
- Introductory knowledge of security concepts: AV, Firewall, SIEM, Threat and Vulnerability Scanning, Data loss Prevention, Network Security, Cloud and Information Security Patterns, and Experience with one or more Cloud Infrastructure providers (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Familiar with security testing techniques such as network discovery, port and service identification, vulnerability scanning, Threat monitoring & hunting, Sigma Rules, configuration reviews, firewalls, social engineering.
- Strong understanding and passion for Security Engineering and automations.
- Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment
