Summary

SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse (RN) provides non-personal nursing support services at the Yakama Indian Health Center (YIHC), assisting federal medical staff in delivering safe, culturally competent, and comprehensive primary and urgent care to American Indian and Alaska Native patients.

 

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Provide direct patient care, assessment, and triage for adult and pediatric patients in walk-in and scheduled appointments.
    • Administer oral and parental medications, immunizations, and wound care as ordered by licensed providers.
    • Assist with clinical procedures, point-of-care testing, and patient education.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Document all clinical activities accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) within 48 hours of service.
    • Address patient concerns over the phone, review clinic schedules, and manage appointments.
  • SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
    • Ability to ensure strict compliance with HIPAA, infection control, and IHS standards of care.
  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
    • Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accreditation agency at the time of completion.
    • Experience: At least two (2) years of recent clinical experience in direct patient care within a healthcare (e.g., hospital) or ambulatory setting.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: There are no supervisory requirements for this position.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Services are primarily performed on-site at the Yakama Indian Health Center in Toppenish, WA.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standard clinical ambulatory care demands, including providing direct care for adult and pediatric patients in a clinic setting.
  • ROLE and LOCATION SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS: Supports the YIHC Nursing Department in primary and urgent care delivery.
  • POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week; regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding federal holidays.
  • TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Primarily on-site at YIHC; community outreach travel may be required.
  • CLEARANCE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
    • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in a U.S. jurisdiction.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Favorable background investigation and fingerprinting; must meet HSPD-12 requirements for federal facility access.
