Job OverviewThe Nurse Bilingual/ESL Summer School will function as a health care provider and manager in the school setting and is responsible for the maintenance of the comprehensive health program that advocates for the health rights of children and promotes an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, plan, intervene and evaluate student health concerns, including physical and mental health needs and injuries
- Maintain, evaluate, and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students
- Provide health assessments including screenings for health factors impacting student education including state mandated screenings such as vision, hearing, scoliosis and acanthosis
- Provide chronic disease management and education, including ventilator care, gastrostomy feedings, tracheotomy care, catheterizations, etc., and provide student-specific training to designated personnel as needed and update training on a regular basis
- Plan and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans and services for children with disabilities and/or health conditions that interfere with learning, including medication administration and monitoring
- Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through immunization programs, early intervention, and surveillance, reporting and follow-up of contagious disease
- Provide health education, health resources, and curriculum recommendations, including human growth and development, prevention of disease transmission, tobacco, alcohol, and substance abuse
- Participate as the health specialist on school teams (i.e. Campus Crisis Team, Section 504, etc.) and recommend provisions for a healthy school environment conducive to learning
- Provide CPR/AED/FA training as needed
- Provide health counseling for staff and provide leadership and/or support for staff wellness programs
- Coordinate school/community health activities and serve as a liaison between school, home, community and health care providers
- Assist in the formation of health policies, procedures, goals and objectives for the school district
- Engage in research and evaluation of school health services in order to continuously improve school health programs and school nursing practices
- Utilize equipment and technology for the delivery of healthcare services including medical diagnosis and treatment, documentation, presentation materials, organization and management
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities, required unless otherwise stated as preferred. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essentials functions.
- Bachelor's Degree in nursing ; a combination of an associate's degree in nursing with a minimum of five years of experience as a registered nurse will be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
- Valid Registered Nurse License from the Texas State Board of Nursing
- Current CPR and AED Certification
- Certification in first aid, hearing, vision, scoliosis, acanthosis screening preferred
- MUST BE A CURRENT FORT BEND ISD EMPLOYEE full-time
- Minimum of 2 years or more years of experience as a registered nurse preferred
- Strong physical assessment and intervention skills
