By joining the best software, engineering, design and UX talent, you will be a part of creating new technologies and concepts that can be applied across the Ford enterprise. Being on the Ford Model E team means building the future as Ford’s center of innovation and growth through electric and connected vehicles and services.

The Senior Manager, Power Electronics will be responsible for concept generation, vehicle level architecture, specific design selection, and optimization work. You will design and iterate the powertrain inverter components through multiple stages of development starting from the block diagram architecture phase. You will Conceptualize, Design, Engineer, Develop and support the launch of next generation powertrains and inverters for electric vehicles.

What you’ll be able to do:

Activities will include:

Write optimization algorithms along with analytical calculations to analyze/optimize various power electronic components and technologies along with vehicle level attributes

Cost optimization from design to manufacturing

Create robust design for automotive application and for mass manufacturing

Inverter chip selection and optimization for durability, efficiency, and performance

Develop block diagrams and 3D topology for HV distribution, HV ancillary, inverters, chargers,

DCDCs, etc.

Develop requirements and correlated analytical models for various electronic systems

Identify and track key system decisions that establish technology roadmaps and product

architecture. Work with program systems teams to make architecture trades for range and

performance that benefit the vehicle and customer

Lead and contribute to design reviews, test plans, and requirements reviews to further optimize

the powertrain system cross functionally

and more

The minimum requirements we seek:

Electrical Engineering or Physics Degree

Sound knowledge of power electronics and control principles

Experience designing and optimizating of motor inverter, charger, DCDC, or similar mass

produced automotive grade products

7+ years of experience designing, developing, and releasing products

5+ years’ experience using finite element methods for performance, durability, cost and NVH of

power electronic components Preferred Requirements:

Experience of coding optimization algorithms, particularly in Matlab

Strong power electronics background, particularly in motor drive applications, DCDC, and or

chargers

Experience of electric drive and motor control concepts for permanent magnet AC machines

Knowledge of fault tolerant machine topologies and optimization of inverters for sensorless

control

High level of expertise and proficiency with Catia, Enovia, or similar tools including drawing and

modelling practices and methodologies

Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products and prototyping powertrain

systems

Experience with Microsoft Office, Confluence, and Jira applications

Experience with instrumentation and measurement of powertrain systems in a lab environment

Strong written and verbal communication skills

An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high

performing team
