Engineering Manager - Performance Attribute Calibration

The Performance Team’s mission is to deliver a best-in-class driving experience that achieves an unprecedented balance of capability and ease of access, while maintaining exceptional range and comfort. As the leader of this team, your core deliverable is an intuitive controls system that allows the user to fully utilize the capabilities of our powertrain systems to achieve high level performance targets including straight line acceleration, handling balance, and range. You and your team will be hands-on in vehicles defining and developing the performance attribute on every program at Lucid or with our technology partners. Your technical knowledge should include control, calibration, testing, and subjective evaluation. Your individual contribution experience should demonstrate consistent on time delivery of innovative controls and calibrations to meet Performance attribute requirements. Your leadership experience should demonstrate guiding and growing a team of engineers ranging from new grads to highly experienced technical experts. You must bring passion for developing state-of-the-art vehicles in a fast paced and evolving work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, represent, and lead a multi-state team of 4-6 calibration engineers defining and delivering the Performance attribute.
  • Set and drive technical, architectural, and operational vision of calibration and validation activities for Performance.
  • Collaborate with Motion Controls, Battery Control, Motor Control, Chassis Control, and Vehicle Dynamics to deliver efficient and accurate control algorithms.
  • Mentor and grow high performance calibration engineers while providing career guidance.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Own end-to-end the calibration development cycle including planning, effort estimating, development, testing, verification and validation, and issue resolution.
  • Explore new technologies and methods for performing calibration and testing activities.
  • Design and execute subject evaluations of performance on Lucid and competitive benchmark vehicles.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of calibration or controls experience in vehicle, powertrain, or chassis domains, including 2+ years managing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or similar technical field is required.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire teams to achieve their best.
  • Proficiency with calibration development tools (ETAS, ATI, Vector, etc.), model-based control development tools (MATLAB, Simulink, State Flow, etc.), data analysis tools (Python, Excel, MATLAB, etc.), calibration management tools (vCDM, Creata, git, etc.) and project management tools (Jira, Confluence, Jama, etc.).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills with an ownership mindset and ability to work across teams and functions to deliver results.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and make data-driven decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to managing escalations and resolving issues.

Advantageous:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or similar is preferred.
  • Experience with battery electric vehicle powertrains.
