Meet our Team
The Venmo Data Platforms team supports Venmo’s internal and customer-facing production data store engineering and operations. Venmo Data Platforms team is actively engaged in database engineering partnering with development groups, platform and infrastructure teams, providing deep subject matter expertise to feature design as well as an advocate for analyzing and resolving customer and performance issues at scale.

Job Description:

Your day-to-day    

• Design/Architect/Implement data strategy and DR strategy for our data 

• Partners with product management, to ideate solutions to business problems and goals 

• Influence the team to improve the technical results of the team/team members 

• Lead complex initiatives that span across multiple teams/cross-organizations and have a companywide impact 

• Design, implement, and operate data platform initiatives to provide a secure, scalable, reliable, and performant data platform to Venmo product and infrastructure teams 

• Design/Architect solutions to measure and remediate bottlenecks in the data platforms 

• Collaborate with stakeholders- leadership and the core data platforms teams on planning and execution of initiatives 

What do you need to bring   

• Bachelors and/or master's in computer science or related field of study   

• At least 15 years' experience in software development or a related field   

• 10+ years' experience operating on-prem/cloud databases and/or distributed systems 24x7x365 

• Experience leading complex projects involving multiple teams in the execution 

• Expert at dealing with large-scale distributed data stores- designing, architecting/re-architecting 

• Excellent ability to articulate non-functional-requirements (NFRs) of existing and new solutions 

• Ability to solve complex problems with an optimal balance of cost-vs-rewards 

• Ability to troubleshoot problems for large-scale data infrastructure 

• Significant hands-on experience with designing and implementing infrastructure to support global-scale services   

• Hands-on experience with IaaS and PaaS solutions from AWS (or similar cloud provider)  

• Experience with Infrastructure as code (AWS CLI, AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet)   

• DynamoDB, AWS DocumentDB, Cassandra, MySQL, AWS Aurora, Redis, ElasticSearch  

• Experience leading software projects 

• AWS Solutions Architect is a plus
