Overview:

The Public Performance Operations Lead takes charge in facilitating Public Performance operational support for several venues within the Juilliard School, one of the most prestigious performing arts schools in the world and home to some of the finest musicians, dancers, actors, and vocal artists. The Lead provides proactive leadership, accountability, tactical and logistical support as needed to all Public Performance Operations office activities, including Front of House, Stage Management and Box Office Management.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Public Performance Operations, the Public Performance Operations Lead is an all-encompassing head role, providing support and supervising areas in the Front of House and Box Office Operations. The Lead will assist in managing all overhires (temporary staff) Front of House & Box Office personnel, as well as a large staff of student work study ushers. The Lead is responsible for assisting in the implementation and enforcement of all front-of-house & box office operations policies and procedures for public performances and special events at Juilliard. 

This role is full-time, 40 hours per week. Compensation is $30 per hour. The duration of this role is 42 weeks per year (approx. August 15 – June 6). This position is overtime eligible.

Juilliard presents more than 700 performances in music, dance, and drama annually. The Department of Public Performance Operations at Juilliard plays a vital role in coordinating and facilitating the numerous public performances that occur within the esteemed institution. This department serves as the logistical backbone, meticulously organizing schedules, venues, and technical requirements to ensure seamless and successful events. From student recitals to large-scale concerts, the department works closely with faculty, students, and external partners to bring artistic visions to fruition. Additionally, the department manages front-of-house operations, ticketing, and audience experiences, striving to create an atmosphere that enhances the enjoyment and appreciation of the performing arts. Through their dedication and expertise, the Public Performance Operations department contributes significantly to Juilliard's mission of nurturing and showcasing the world's most talented musicians, actors, and dancers.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a Principal House Manager for Juilliard public performance venues.  Must be available on a sliding schedule to work evenings and weekends.
    • Oversees the enforcement of all Front of House Policies and the implementation of all procedures, during all public performances and special events.
    • The Lead will analyze the department budget and track the budget
    • Coordinates with Facilities Management and Public Safety to create and maintain a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for all Juilliard Patrons.
    • Conveys to Facilities Management and Public Safety any concerns regarding any incidents or issues that arise before, during, or after any performance or event.
    • Communicates and coordinates with Box Office Staff and Stage Management before, during, and after the start of the performance per updated Operational Procedures and Established Workflow.
    • Maintains valid up to date Certification per Industry standards, including F-03 Fire Guard for Indoor Place of Assembly and CPR/ First Aid Certification.
  • Tracks all performances and ensures sufficient coverage for them through the use of Asana, ASIMUT, and the performance calendar.
  • Maintains the Usher Management application – a custom internal application to manage ushers.
