The Role
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the company’s accounting operations, with a strong focus on revenue recognition for a SaaS business. This role combines hands-on involvement in the monthly close and financial reporting process with technical accounting analysis related to customer contracts, new product offerings, and evolving business models. The ideal candidate brings a solid understanding of ASC 606, enjoys partnering cross-functionally, and is eager to contribute in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Revenue Recognition (SaaS-Focused)
- Support revenue recognition activities for a SaaS business in accordance with ASC 606, including contract reviews, identification of performance obligations, and timing of revenue recognition.
- Prepare and review revenue-related journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Perform ad hoc analyses related to customer contracts, pricing changes, new product launches, and contract modifications.
- Partner closely with Revenue Operations, Sales, Legal, and FP&A to ensure proper accounting treatment for new and evolving revenue streams.
Accounting & Close Activities
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Assist in preparing internal monthly financial reporting and variance analysis.
- Ensure accurate accounting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, including related disclosures.
- Support SEC reporting requirements, including preparation of supporting schedules and tie-outs.
- Partner with external auditors during quarterly reviews and year-end audits, particularly in areas related to revenue and technical accounting.
Technical Accounting & Research
- Perform accounting research and document conclusions for complex or non-routine transactions (e.g., SaaS revenue arrangements, equity/debt arrangements, software capitalization).
- Monitor new accounting pronouncements and assess their impact on the company’s accounting and financial reporting.
- Support the implementation of new accounting standards, where applicable.
Internal Controls & SOX
- Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting, with a focus on revenue-related processes.
- Assist with SOX compliance efforts, including documentation, testing support, and control improvements.
Process Improvement & Automation
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and controls within the revenue and accounting processes.
- Participate in system enhancements, automation initiatives, and reporting improvements related to revenue and close activities.
Requirements:
- CPA designation required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree preferred.
- 2–3 years of public accounting experience, ideally with exposure to technical accounting, public company reporting and internal controls.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition (ASC 606).
- Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems preferred.
