MISSION / SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing support and leadership for the pulp mill crews to ensure success.  This includes safety, engagement, reliability, quality and environmental performance.  The successful candidate will understand and align business operations and the Pulp Mill as he/she executes their role to exceed expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Directly supervise approximately 20 unionized shift employees in the daily production of the Paper Mill operation.
  • Responsible for safe work environment, including conducting safety meetings, safety observations and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental requirements and regulations in the area.
  • Provide support for day-today troubleshooting and product quality.
  • Participate in pulp mill reliability initiatives.  Implementing systems to improve overall reliability of all processes.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to reduce costs.
  • Monitor and manage Key Operating Parameters
  • Implement and improve standard work systems such as trouble cause corrections, standard operating procedures, startup/shutdown checklists and centerlines
  • Develop and maintain Pulp Mill department training.
  • Coordinate Pulp Area activities with other Area Process Managers to maximize mill productivity and reliability.
  • Responsible for housekeeping activities in the area.

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five (5) years manufacturing experience
  • 3+ years pulp mill experience is required for entry into this position.
  • Pulp & Paper Mill experience preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of PSM (Process Safety Management), preferred not required.
  • Candidates must possess ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks, an understanding of team concepts, a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, as well as an established skill to execute work based on standards and procedures.
