POSITION SPECIFICS
The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) in the College of Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, is pleased to announce a search for one outstanding tenure track faculty position in the area of Operations Research (OR). This position will be filled at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications. Candidates for Assistant Professor must have demonstrated ability as a teacher or research worker and must have shown definite evidence of growth in scholarly or professional achievement. The Associate Professor should possess the same qualifications as the Assistant Professor but must also provide evidence of an established reputation in scholarly or professional achievement. The Professor should possess the same qualifications as the Associate Professor but must also provide evidence of a substantial record of advanced research and/or creative work, and of leadership in their field of specialization.
The Operations Research (OR) area is foundational to the IME Department at Penn State. Roughly two-thirds of our current PhD students are in the area of OR and related applications. We welcome candidates who can build a strong methodological research base in areas of Operations Research, including optimization, stochastics, simulation, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Applicants at all ranks must have a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or closely related discipline (or near completion of their doctoral studies) with demonstrated research potential by the appointment date. They must also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidates are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, establish and lead an innovative research program, supervise graduate students, pursue external funding opportunities, and provide service to the University. The anticipated start date for this faculty position is August 2026.
