Work Designation. Depending on your location within the continental US, this role may be hybrid or remote.

 

• If you live within 50 miles of the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be hybrid. This means you will be expected to work in the office for at least 60% of the work week. You will work from your home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion of the work week. Details of this schedule will be discussed with your leadership. 
• If you live more than 50 miles from the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be remote. This means you will be expected to work from your home, within the continental US. If the role is remote, there may be occasions that you are requested to come to the office based on business need. Any requests to come to the office would be communicated with you in advance.

Education & Experience Required

• High School Diploma or Equivalent

 

Education & Experience Preferred

• Bachelor's Degree Business Administration or related field
• Completion of CLU, LOMA, HIAA or other insurance related courses

 

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Reviews group information for Dental and Vision opportunities; performs duties under general supervision with limited latitude for independent action or decision making, follows established and documented guidelines or procedures make determination on approvals, declinations, modifications, or postponements of applications; performs routine clerical tasks to relieve underwriter of administrative details.
• Compiles data and performs tasks to relieve underwriter of administrative details using knowledge of underwriting and policy issuing procedures; maintains related files; provides general administrative support to the underwriting department.
• Consults with Implementation and Account management teams on reinstatements and communicates appropriate action with guidance from the underwriter;
• Using established underwriting criteria and rating methodologies, analyzes risk and financial data to underwrite new business opportunities for small group cases.
• Underwrites minimally complex yearly renewals of group cases based on thorough analysis of the group’s financial condition, participation percentage, type of industry, participating employee demographics, and past claim experience.
• May communicate with clients to discuss and/or obtain case detail pertinent to decision making process; considers the underwriting decisions impact on profitability of the account, product and company.
• Communicates with sales, administration and claims to assess the rating and administrative impact or benefit and plan changes; discusses key business opportunities with senior management as requested
• Coordinates with other departments to ensure the accuracy and consistency of account reporting; is instrumental in managing and attaining market specific financial goals; participates in data analysis and reporting projects.
