Director, International Tax

Position Summary
The Director, International Tax is responsible for the oversight and management of all aspects within the International Tax function at STERIS, including accounting for income taxes, compliance, U.S. and Non-U.S. controversy, tax planning, and other special projects.
This position interacts throughout the Company internally, and with auditors, tax advisors, outside counsel, government agencies, consultants, and financial and industry executives externally.
*This position is located in Mentor, Ohio with the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule.
What You'll do as a Director, International Tax
- Oversee the review of non-US quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations
- Oversee the review of account reconciliations for Non-US locations, including: Deferred Tax account reconciliations, current Income Tax account reconciliations, non-income Tax account reconciliations
- Oversee the review of supporting documentation for international provisions of US federal income tax compliance, including Forms 926, 1118, 5471, 5472, 8858, 8865, 8990, 8991, 8992, 8993 and other associated tax return disclosures
- Assist with support of U.S. international and non-U.S. tax return positions upon audit and/or other controversy measures, including direct communication with Tax Authorities
- Responsible for the documentation and support of tax policies and procedures to comply with Sarbanes Oxley
- Monitor current events and developments regarding tax regulation and policies and deliver communications to and training of finance and non-finance functions on the implications of such changes in international tax policy and compliance requirements, as appropriate.
- Provide leadership, direction and establish ongoing goals and priorities for staff. Ensure talent and performance management practices are in place to foster an engaged, productive team.
- Support the Senior Director in business development through minimization of tax on cross border acquisitions and/or dispositions
- Assist the Senior Director with planning for tax efficient repatriation of foreign cash, and other tax planning opportunities
- Review documentation prepared for special projects or tax planning opportunities
- Perform tax research and assist with tax planning, including memo preparation and presentation of proposals to senior management
- Liaise with department Tax Leaders on day-to-day issues related to worldwide tax matters.
- Assist with ongoing entity rationalization efforts to streamline the STERIS group structure and cut entity governance costs.
- Assist with other tasks related to Non-U.S. activities, as needed
- Use lean philosophies and methodologies for process improvement.
- Lead the continuous improvement initiatives within own function and processes, including standard work and the root-cause-countermeasure process in support of key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Participate in Kaizen events when appropriate and supports the action plans that result from Kaizen events with relevance to International tax function.
- Measure outcomes of implemented solutions.
- Lead change ensuring the key elements of change management are addressed in projects whether related to tax department processes, acquisition integration, or process improvement
- Working with the Financial Services senior leadership team, lead and/or support ad hoc projects or work on department improvement efforts as assigned.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
Required:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 12+ years experience within corporate tax.
- 7 years specialized in international tax matters required.
- 4 years of direct management experience.
Preferred:
- Professional certification: CPA or CMA
Other:
- Candidate should possess strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical skills – must be able to compile and analyze information.
- Proven attention to detail.
- Self-starter, self-confident and self-motivated, as well as possess the ability to act and operate independently.
- Excellent time management skills are required.
- Additional hours are typically necessary during peak compliance and reporting periods.
