Personal Safety Professional

Job Summary:

Marathon Petroleum Company Martinez Renewable Facility has an opening for a Personal Safety Professional located in Martinez, CA.  This position will be the primary safety resource for an operations area team. The Safety Professional is responsible for a wide range of safety activities including program development and interpretation, conducting safety training, auditing, and corrective actions. This position is in the Environmental, Safety & Security (ESS) organization and reports to the Safety Supervisor.  The available schedules for the position are 9/80, 5/40 or 4/1, on-call rotation required one full week to include the weekend a month and support of TAR twice a year. (TAR bonus is available to people who support TAR by working additional hours.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support as the point of contact person for an operations area team on all safety issues.

  • Provide support as the point of contact person for maintenance area team on all safety issues.

  • Support the refinery emergency response efforts as part of the Incident Command structure.

  • Support the refinery as a technical resource for safety issues including interpretation of standards and regulations.

  • Serve as the site SME for various refinery safety policies.

  • Provide Safety support for Injury Case Management.

  • Coordinate the site’s Area Team Auditing Program.

  • Rotational on-call duty including weekends and holidays required.

  • Develop, coordinate, and present various safety training courses to refinery personnel.

  • Continuously assess safety risks within the area, develop and execute mitigation plans to address risks.

  • Conduct field audits, assessments, and surveys.

  • Engage with contractors to communicate safety expectations and help them meet Company objectives.

  • Review work permits, correct deficiencies, identify improvement opportunities and help drive improvement.

  • Provide safety related input in the development and review of operating procedures.

  • Serve as an advocate for first line employees to help them safely complete work.

  • Ensure OSHA regulatory compliance.

  • Interact with refinery personnel to ensure safety procedures and regulations are followed

Education, Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with 5 years of relevant safety professional experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field with 2 years of relevant safety professional experience.(Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date) (Degree must be accredited in US.)

  • Must be able interpret OSHA standards, apply OSHA standards and provide OSHA guidance to the site.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

  • Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A valid driver’s license is preferred. (MPC determines valid status.)

  • Experience with PowerBI or similiar reporting/analytics system is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree (or above) in an Occupational Safety-, Safety Management- or Industrial Hygiene-related discipline is preferred.

  • More than 6 years of experience in a Safety professional position in the refining or petrochemical industry is preferred.

  • ASP or GSP and/or on track for CSP certification is preferred.

  • Ability to obtain a TWIC Card is preferred.
