About the Position

Glen Kernan Club is seeking a dependable and motivated Prep Cook to join our culinary team. This is an excellent opportunity for a culinary professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced kitchen, takes pride in quality and consistency, and wants to be part of an elevated dining experience.

As a Prep Cook, you will support the kitchen team by preparing ingredients, following recipes, maintaining kitchen organization, and ensuring food is prepared efficiently and to the highest standards. You will also assist the Executive Chef with pastry and dessert production, helping create baked goods, desserts, and other pastry items for our members and guests.

The ideal candidate is a team player with strong attention to detail, a passion for food preparation, and a willingness to learn and grow. Experience with pastry, baking, or dessert preparation is a plus.

Job purpose

The Prep Cook supports the kitchen team by preparing ingredients, assisting with pastry and dessert production, ensuring consistency, and following recipes as directed by the Executive Chef or Sous Chef. They will help maintain high-quality food production, focus on portion control, and ensure food is prepared in a timely and efficient manner. The Prep Cook is responsible for executing prep tasks, maintaining kitchen organization, and supporting cost-control initiatives.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, and cutting vegetables, meats, and other items per recipe specifications.
  • Assist the Executive Chef with pastry and dessert production, including baked goods, desserts, and pastry components according to recipes and quality standards.
  • Operate cutting tools and kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
  • Communicate clearly and efficiently with Executive Chef to ensure smooth operations.
  • Follow recipes precisely to prepare sauces, dressings, entrees, and side dishes, ensuring consistent taste and quality.
  • Ensure proper storage of all food items to maintain freshness and organization.
  • Check food deliveries for accuracy, quality, and freshness; store products according to safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, adhering to sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Complete opening and closing checklists to ensure the kitchen is prepared for service and secure at closing.
  • Conduct daily walk-throughs to ensure safety, efficiency, and a clean work environment.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, and guidelines set by Hampton Golf.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Prep Cook, Line Cook or similar kitchen role required
  • Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bake ware
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
  • Knowledge of pastry, baking, and dessert preparation is a plus
  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical demands of the position
  • High school diploma or equivalent; culinary training is a plus

Working conditions

Work is primarily indoors. Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement, sharp utensils, harmful chemicals and/or being exposed to flying golf balls.
