Position Overview - Building/Grounds Maintenance Worker
The Department of Military Affairs is looking to hire a Building/Grounds Maintenance Worker for the Traveling Maintenance Team Central located out of Camp Lincoln. This position under direct supervision, regularly performs a variety of semi-skilled labor or building mechanical work below the journeyman level and may directly assist skilled craftsmen; or operates heavy equipment, as required, in the maintenance of the facility and grounds. The Department of Military Affairs works with the members of the Illinois Air and Army National Guard. We welcome all interested applicants to apply.
Essential Functions
- Performs routine ground maintenance of facilities as assigned and/or supervised by Team Military Maintenance Engineer. Travels to various locations throughout Central IL to perform job duties as a member of the Central Maintenance Team.
- Performs routine maintenance of facilities and assists certified trades personnel on the maintenance team.
- Loads and unloads trucks sets up and takes down tables, chairs, etc.; moves office equipment; carries moderate to heavy items up to 80 lbs. as assigned by the Military Maintenance Engineer.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school plus one year of maintenance work experience preferably associated with the building/mechanical trades and/or heavy equipment operation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers the ability to follow oral and written instructions including blueprints and other diagrams.
- Prefers the ability to use power tools, operate heavy equipment and perform semi-skilled manual work in a safe manner.
