The Lead Medical Office Assistant (MOA) is responsible for providing quality patient care to patients, by providing necessary clinical assessments, interventions, and effective utilization of staff and resources, maintaining procedures, which enhance staff ability to deliver quality patient care. The Lead MOA is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, evaluating, directing, and empowering the Medical Office Assistant staff in the Outpatient Services and/or the Sleep Center of the Psychiatric Service Line.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
DIRECT PATIENT CARE:
1. Receiving and assessing phone calls from patients and responding appropriately to include crisis interventions, or scheduling an appointment in the Clinic. Patient calls will be responded to in a timely manner.
2. Handling complaint calls appropriately.
3. Provides screening services for patients prior to seeing the provider to include but not be limited to: Vital signs, assessment of medication adherence side effects and benefits, weight, and any additional medical or clinical information to be provided to the provider from the patient.
4. Assists Psychiatrists and Therapists with patients who arc being admitted to Psychiatric Inpatient Services to include both voluntary and involuntary admissions.
5. Responds to patients who arrive at the Clinic without an appointment, in crisis, with an effective assessment and recommendation for the patient.
6. Ensures prescription refills are called to appropriate pharmacies and written prescriptions from physicians are ready for patient pickup and documented in the chart.
7. Performs urine drug screens as needed.
8. Monitors patient lab reports and notifies psychiatrist on any abnormal lab values or panic values.
INDIRECT PATIENT CARE:
1. Supervises Medical Office Assistants to include training, disciplinary action, performance evaluations, and makes or changes assignments as needed to provide coverage for psychiatrists or other providers. Assists the Medical Office Assistants as needed for Clinic coverage.
2. Attends meetings as delineated by the supervisor or Director.
3. Evaluates the Medical Office Assistants in terms of performance standards, patient care standards, guest relations and overall contribution to the organization and ensures all mandatory training is completed.
4. Ensures all UDAs are drawn and that the UDA office is maintained according to Infection Control Standards and Policies.
5. Acts as a mentor for new and existing Medical Office Assistants.
6. Works closely with the Patient Care Manager at the inpatient units, regarding any changes in responsibility for the Medical Office Assistant Staff or policy changes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent. Certification as a Medical Office Assistant and/or Associates Degree in Medical Assisting mandatory.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two years experience in a psychiatric clinic or sleep clinic setting preferred. Supervisory experience in the work force a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of psychiatric setting/procedures and/or sleep clinic settings. Computer, managed care, and insurance knowledge preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to see, hear, read and have manual ability to use telephones, video equipment and computer keyboard. Must be able to move throughout all departments of the Medical Center and effectively communicate orally to patients, family members, personnel and physicians.
