An experienced labor and employment legal practitioner, the Senior Counsel, Labor & Employment provides comprehensive, high-quality, timely, and practical advice and representation on labor, employment, employee benefits, and related matters to internal clients throughout the company, in the US and worldwide. Serves as strategic legal partner to the global Westinghouse HR organization. This is a US only Mobile (tied to our Cranberry Township, PA HQ location) or REMOTE role.
Your Day to Day:
- Provide prompt, practical, and risk-informed advice and counsel to internal clients on the comprehensive scope of legal issues involving labor and employment law in multiple jurisdictions.
- Develop and implement policies and programs and conduct training on employment-related topics such as ethical behaviors at work, harassment prevention and diversity/inclusion in the workplace for all segments of the employee population.
- Review and provide advice on discipline cases throughout the company.
- Work with internal clients to respond to allegations of discrimination and represent the company before administrative agencies such as the EEOC, NLRB, DOL, NRC, and state agencies.
- Represent the company in labor arbitration proceedings and engage with internal clients on labor issues.
- Remain current on all aspects of labor and employment law and provide updates to clients as warranted.
- Work closely with outside counsel to supervise and ensure efficient representation of Westinghouse in civil lawsuits.
Who You Are:
- Juris Doctor
- 5+ years experience, typically 10+ years
- Admission to bar in US jurisdiction
- The successful candidate with have the following experience:
- providing exceptional service to corporate clients, with demonstrated ability to develop strategic relationships across the organization and experience addressing emerging challenges in a practical, risk-informed manner.
- drafting and reviewing high-quality legal documents, including pleadings, investigative reports, company policies, memoranda, and presentations for senior management.
- representing clients in court and before fair employment practice agencies (federal and state), NLRB, and DOL, including responding to investigative requests, litigation and trial experience in discrimination cases, and negotiating settlements.
- representing witnesses in government investigations.
- OFCCP compliance matters.
- negotiating and interpreting collective bargaining agreements, assisting clients in the grievance process and successful representation of clients in arbitration proceedings.
- conducting internal investigations on employment matters, including training on investigative techniques and advising management on response to investigative findings.
- advising on employee benefit matters, including compensation, pensions, and related issues.
- managing outside counsel, maintaining budgets, and coordinating/overseeing litigation matters.
- International experience preferred, including managing international litigation, providing advice to international HR functions and management, and familiarity with data privacy requirements.
- Experience in-house preferred.
