About the role

The Manager of Analysis & Planning, under the direction of the Director of FP&A, is responsible for the process of assisting with the direction of overseeing the compilation and the analysis of GIA's global short-term and long-term financial strategies, including its annual budget process. The role will oversee the management of the FP&A department’s development and distribution of management reports, analysis of financial trends – including actual results against budget and forecast, the calculation of the monetary effects of potential business decisions, and the provision of advice to GIA’s operational leaders. The Manager of Analysis & Planning plays a crucial role in guiding the financial health and strategic direction of the organization. 

Using a variety of tools, the Manager of Analysis and Planning performs the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of FP&A professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Strategic Guidance: Collaborate with FP&A leadership to provide strategic direction and insights to senior management, supporting the decision-making process with forward thinking collaboration.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment of financial goals and objectives.

Core FP&A Foundational Activities

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Oversee the management of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business objectives.
  • Financial Analysis: Manage and conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. Guiding the FP&A team members direct activities to support organizational goals.
  • Performance Reporting: Develop, prepare, and present regular financial performance reports, highlighting key metrics and insights. Coordinated monthly/quarterly business reviews with senior leadership; reviewed P&L results, margin, KPI’s, and identified actionable gaps to plan resulting in corrective action.
  • Profitability Reporting: Develop and oversee pricing reviews to recommend optimal pricing scenarios for new and existing business lines.
  • Scenario Modeling and Presentation: Develop multiple business case scenarios and present to a host of audiences across the organization, including to C-suite members.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Collaborates regularly to provide financial insights, gather operational updates, and develop financial acumen with functional leadership including, but not limited to: IT, Marketing, Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, Human Resources.

Transformation and Optimization of Financial Reporting

  • Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to streamline and optimize financial reporting processes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
  • System Optimization and Reporting: Identify opportunities for optimized use of existing systems, partnering with operations and business systems; Implement new reporting tools for enhanced transparency and availability of financial data across the organization; improve data analysis and reporting capabilities.
  • Change Management: Drive change management efforts to ensure successful adoption of new processes and technologies within the FP&A function.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Acuity of key business concepts and relationships applicable to a unified academic/research/laboratory operation.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively review and provide an accurate, well-organized delivery in a time-conscious fashion.
  • Capability to compose and edit written materials (correspondence, policies, procedures, etc.).
  • Ability to professionally communicate and collaborate in a complex environment with a focus on customer service.
