About the Role

Responsible for the continuous improvement and application of a range of vehicle noise management systems including Engine Order Cancellation, Road Noise Cancellation, and Electronic Sound Synthesis.  Will need to organize and execute vehicle tuning/testing, analyze data appropriately, and apply results towards the development of active noise control technologies.


What You Will Do

  • Lead noise management systems development and tuning, working with local and global development teams

  • Conduct integration and tuning of active noise control technologies in Harman development vehicles

  • Support design of experiments in support of active noise innovation and development activities

  • Acquire and analyze data for the assessment of active noise technology performance and stability

  • Use, maintain, and improve upon Best Practices and Design Standards via the Lessons Learned process and the Knowledge Base

What You Need

  • Degree in mechanical, electrical, acoustics engineering, or equivalent experience

  • 7+ years of experience years of experience in acoustics and/or Powertrain NVH

  • Specific experience in NVH data acquisition

  • Skilled in Head Acoustics ArtemiS, Siemens Testlab, or equivalent NVH testing and analysis tools

  • Experience with independently developing and executing test plans for NVH performance evaluation and root cause analysis

What is Nice to Have

  • Experience in tuning Acoustic Noise Cancellation systems

  • Prior experience with full vehicle NVH evaluation and testing performed on-road and proving grounds

  • Education and experience in sound quality metrics and psychoacoustics

  • Knowledge and interest in music theory, sound composition, creative sound design, synthesizers (keyboard or computer), electronic music recording and production is strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of Matlab

What Makes You Eligible

  • Be willing to travel up to 15% domestic and international travel

  • Be willing to work in an office in Novi, Michigan

  • Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment

  • This position requires the use of a HARMAN or customer-owned vehicle. As such, any offer of employment will be contingent upon having a clean driving record, which will be evaluated and determined in HARMAN’s sole discretion, no more than four (4) active points for moving violations (issued by any motor vehicle agency), and no references to operating a vehicle under the influence of controlled substances within the last 10 years.

Salary Ranges:

USD 83,250 - USD 122,100
