Position Overview

The Academic Success Coach II is a full-time, grant-funded position responsible for supporting participants in developing the skills and motivation necessary to complete secondary education and successfully enroll in and complete postsecondary education. Under supervision, the position manages a caseload of students, providing academic, college, career, and financial aid advising. The role emphasizes individualized, student-centered planning, early intervention, and coordination of program activities such as Saturday Academies and Summer Components. This position contributes directly to improving student outcomes related to high school graduation, college enrollment, and degree attainment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Advising, Academic Support, and Case Management

  • Creates purposeful interactions between students and academic institutions to develop individualized, student-centered educational plans.

  • Assesses academic and supportive needs of participants to promote student success.

  • Provides academic advising, enrichment sessions, and tutoring coordination based on individual student needs.

  • Assists students with accessing online learning materials and academic resources.

  • Guides students in understanding curriculum requirements and the relationship between majors and careers.

  • Assists students in establishing goals that promote academic engagement, progress, and success.

  • Travels to target schools to meet with participants regarding academic progress, college readiness, and career preparation.

  • Maintains student records, tracks grades, and ensures accurate documentation.

  • Meets with target school personnel to obtain academic records for monitoring progress.

  • Implements early intervention strategies, including follow-up support for at-risk students.

  • Assists students in resolving academic and personal challenges and connects them with appropriate campus and community resources.

  • Monitors student academic progress and ensures program compliance.

 

Program Coordination, Recruitment, and Outreach

  • Identifies, recruits, and interviews program participants.

  • Reviews applications and ensures completeness and accuracy of required documentation.

  • Coordinates and participates in recruitment events at designated target schools.

  • Assists in planning and coordinating Saturday Academies and Summer Component programs.

  • Collaborates with TAMUK partner departments to prepare participants for program activities.

  • Coordinates and participates in field trips, college visits, cultural activities, and career exploration opportunities to enhance student development.
