KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provides technical support of routine operations, project work, major maintenance or construction support, and emergency response to ensure worker safety throughout the planning and execution phases of work.
· Supports development, maintenance, and execution of safety programs for implementation in the field to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and conformance to MPC corporate standards.
· Conducts auditing on safety programs to verify compliance and conformance with regulatory and MPC standards. This includes analyzing safety performance data to identify and report trends, along with proposing recommendations to address areas of concern.
· Leads and supports investigations for near-misses, incidents, and injuries to identify root causes and recommendations to prevent future incidents. Tracks recommendations to implementation to ensure completion.
· Develops and presents training material related to a variety of safety topics in collaboration with the Operations and Learning Development departments.
· Provides subject matter expertise for assigned programs, which may include providing input as a competent person for fall protection and excavation safety, support during life-critical work, and input on other regulatory programs.
· Develops safety-related communications for inclusion into shift starter meetings, safety meeting notices, and bulletins.
· Travel expectations: up to 25%
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
· High School diploma or GED required with 4 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with two (2) or more years of relevant experience
· Working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements
· Ability to identify issues and work as an independent problem solver
· Capable of managing conflict in the work environment
· Focuses on developing business acumen and technical knowledge
· Current safety-related certifications are a plus
· Must hold a valid driver's license with an excellent driving record
· Must be able to pass a drug test and background check

· Must possess knowledge of safety metrics, root cause analysis, excavation safety, confined space entry, fall protection requirements, energy isolation, hot work, hazard communication, mobile equipment and mobile crane safety.
· Must have the ability to prepare safety-related reports and other types of documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
· Ability to incorporate different training methods based on the audience and capability to speak in front of large groups.
· Must be able to properly analyze process safety-related information and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
· Must be proficient in conducting onsite assessments and evaluations as they relate to safety and process safety management items.
