ABOUT THE TEAM

We are a close-knit team of 12 lawyers based in the UK, India, Bulgaria and Germany. We are one of the most cross-functional teams in the company, helping Tideans accomplish their goals, grow the company and stay compliant. Each team member is a true owner and has a huge impact every day.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Legal Counsel in the Product Legal team, you will serve as a subject matter expert on a diverse range of regulatory and legal issues relating to the development, launch, marketing and operation of Tide’s products and services. You will lead the legal support on Tide’s payments and banking products while working collaboratively across different teams to ensure compliance with the fast-evolving regulatory environment. Your focus will be on Tide’s UK business, but you will support team members in the roll out of these products in other countries. [You will also support other products and functions, such as credit, business services and marketing.]

This is a senior role within the Tide Legal Team, with high executive visibility and excellent opportunities to lead the resolution of complex legal, technology and business issues. [This is not your average banking lawyer role. You will be building products, driving growth and influencing the future of Tide.]

As a Senior Legal Counsel - you’ll be:

  • Advising product teams and management on UK and EU legal and regulatory requirements for activities, products, and services, and liaising with external counsel as needed.  
  • Guiding business teams through legal frameworks to design, launch, and improve products, particularly in payments, banking and acquiring.
  • Drafting and reviewing product-related terms, policies, and communications, ensuring compliance with UK and EU regulations.
  • Anticipating challenges and delivering creative legal solutions to support the product roadmap.
  • Supporting EU market expansion by conducting legal surveys and assessing regulatory requirements.
  • Managing complex contracts and legal projects, ensuring timely execution with input from stakeholders.
  • Providing agile advice on a wide range of legal queries, including corporate, commercial, and operational matters.
  • Assisting with regulatory changes, advocacy efforts, investigations, audits, and ad hoc disputes.
  • Training and guiding teams on UK and EU regulatory developments and implications.
  • Mentoring junior lawyers and supporting their development.

 

YOU’LL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU

  • Have 5+ years PQE with expertise applying UK or EU laws and regulations within payments institutions, fintech companies, or top-tier law firms.
  • Have experience drafting product or service terms and conditions in a technology driven environment.
  • Possess knowledge of laws in other major European jurisdictions and have some contentious experience (desirable, but not required).
  • Excel at navigating complex legal challenges and providing guidance to business teams.
  • Are a strong individual contributor with excellent collaboration skills across all organisational levels.
  • Have experience mentoring or managing junior colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively in cross-functional, international environments.
  • Thrive in fast-paced, growth-oriented business settings.
  • Are comfortable making decisions under tight deadlines and managing ambiguity.
  • Demonstrate a proactive, can-do attitude with ownership of resolving issues.
  • Have exceptional organizational skills and can handle multiple projects simultaneously.
